The Maungdaw Town Grand Mosque, closed for more than ten years, was reopened by the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government on September 12, 2025, at approximately 9:30 AM during a formal ceremony, according to local residents.
The opening ceremony featured the recitation of selected verses from the Holy Quran, a speech by the regional administrative officer, an expression of gratitude and joy by the chairman of the Muslim Affairs Council for the mosque’s reopening, a speech by the head of the jury on fostering social harmony, and a thank-you address by the chairman of the mosque’s management committee. The event included nine successful program segments.

Approximately 300 individuals attended the ceremony, including officials from the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government, jury members, representatives from the Maungdaw District Islamic Affairs Council, the mosque’s management committee, and members of the Rakhine, Thet, Mro, Hindu, and Muslim communities.
The Maungdaw Town Grand Mosque had been closed since the conflict in 2012.
