Terrorist Muslim groups have carried out a series of bomb attacks on Christian churches in Dhaka, Bangladesh, sparking fear among the country’s Christian community.

Between October 8 and November 7, there were three consecutive bomb attacks targeting two Christian churches and one Christian school in Dhaka.

On November 7, explosions occurred at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s School, followed by another attack on October 8 against the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, one of the oldest churches built by the Portuguese community.

According to Nirmal Rozario, president of the Bangladesh Christian Association, the attackers approached St. Mary’s Church on motorcycles and threw grenades into the church compound.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police spokesperson Hamid Talibar Rahman stated that the bombings may have religious connections, though separate motives cannot be ruled out. However, he confirmed that the attacks were clearly intended to intimidate the Christian population.

In Bangladesh, a nation of around 170 million people, only about 500,000 are Christians. The recent bombings of religious schools and churches have heightened fear and insecurity among the country’s small Christian minority.
