Over 160 Civilians Killed and Over 20 Injured by Muslim Armed Groups in Arakan Within Over Two Years

More than 160 civilian residents have been killed and over 20 others injured within a period of over two years due to killings perpetrated by Muslim armed extremist groups in Arakan.
According to a statement issued by the Humanitarian and Development Coordination Office (HDCO), a 27-month period spanning from November 2023 to January 2026 saw 162 local civilians killed and 22 others injured in Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships due to violence committed by Islamic extremist Muslim groups, namely ARSA, RSO, ARA, and RIM.
The statement noted that in addition to the 22 local civilians wounded during these incidents, approximately 30 individuals remain missing, while 15 people managed to escape the violent attacks.
A demographic breakdown of those killed includes 137 Arakanese, 35 Muslims, 34 Hindus, 13 Khamee, 6 Mro, and 4 Chakma.
Furthermore, data from the report indicated that those targeted in the attacks included 12 children, 17 women, and 212 men.
According to the HDCO statement, the Islamic extremist Muslim groups carried out 13 mass killings, resulting in 48 fatalities, which accounts for nearly 30% of the total death toll recorded during this period.
