The military commission, which has been continuously detaining local residents in Sittwe under various pretexts, arrested nine Muslim individuals within a three-day period from May 16 to May 18.
The detained individuals have been identified as Noka (35), Husson Amauk (40), Mamauk (27), Inbi Haras (46), a woman named Zardar, and four other Muslim individuals.
According to a local source, at around 11:00 AM on May 18, a police colonel from Police Battalion No. 36 in Sittwe, accompanied by about 20 police personnel, arrived at Ohn Taw Gyi IDP Camp (2).
They arrested seven Muslim men from the camp—including Noka, Husson Amauk, Mamauk, and four others—under allegations of human trafficking.
Similarly, at around 10:00 AM on May 17, three police personnel from the Man Si Junction police outpost entered a home in Hmo Theim Nya Village, Sittwe Township, and detained Inbi Haras while he was selling toddy palm juice.
Furthermore, at around 8:00 PM on May 16, seven police personnel arrived at the Dar Paing IDP Camp to search for the husband of a woman named Zardar. When they failed to find him, they detained Zardar instead and took her to Police Battalion No. 36.
Earlier on May 19, it was also reported that six displaced Arakanese men sheltering at the Citta Thukha Kammarhtan Monastery in Sittwe were arbitrarily arrested on May 9. One of them subsequently died due to torture inflicted by the terrorist military.
