In Bangladesh's Narsingdi district, a 23-year-old Hindu youth was locked inside a garage while sleeping and burned alive, according to a report in The New Indian Express.
The deceased is Chanchal Chandra Bhowmik, son of Khokan Chandra Bhowmik from Cumilla district.
He worked at a motor vehicle repair garage (garage) in Narsingdi and was the sole primary breadwinner for his family.
On the night of Friday, January 23, while Chanchal was asleep inside the garage where he worked, unidentified individuals locked the door from outside, poured petrol (or flammable fuel), and set it on fire.
Chanchal was trapped inside the flames for a considerable time, suffering from suffocation and severe burn injuries, and died at the scene, according to eyewitness accounts.
The victim's family members have stated that this incident was not an accident but a "premeditated murder," and they are demanding the swift arrest of the perpetrators and the imposition of the harshest possible punishment.
Narsingdi District Police Superintendent Abdullah Al Faruque said, "Upon reviewing CCTV footage, we observed a suspicious individual moving around at the time of the incident. We are investigating in detail whether this was due to an electrical short circuit or external involvement."
Although the fire service team attempted to rescue him by breaking open the garage door, Chanchal had already been burned to death by the time they arrived.
Since the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus took power in Bangladesh, attacks on Hindu minorities have significantly increased.
Bangladesh's Hindu community, which makes up about 7% of the population, is currently experiencing heightened fear and concerns for their safety.
