A Local Resident Injured in Shooting by Islamic Extremist Militants

One local resident was injured today, August 24, around noon after Islamic extremist militants opened fire on three local villagers fishing in the Naf River in Maungdaw Township, Arakan.

The injured victim, U Maung Maung Gyi (40 years old), is from Chhan Pyin Village in Maungdaw Township. He, along with two other local residents from the same village U Bo Win Tun and Daw Ah Bu had headed out in a motorboat to fish in the Naf River earlier this morning.

While they were fishing in the river shortly after 12:00 PM, approximately five armed militants arrived on a motorboat from the Bangladesh side and fired six gunshots at them.

As a result, U Maung Maung Gyi sustained injuries to his left cheek and nose.

Currently, the Arakan Army (AA) is reportedly pursuing the militant group and conducting clearance operations.
