9th Anniversary Commemoration of Mass Killing of Hindus Held in Maungdaw

A solemn 9th-anniversary memorial ceremony was held today, August 25, in Ye Bauk Kyar village, Khamoung Seik town, Maungdaw Township, Maungdaw District, Arakan State. The event commemorated the peaceful Hindu residents who were killed on Friday, August 25, 2017.  

During the ceremony, attendees recalled the events of 2017, expressed their grief, and offered prayers for those who lost their lives.  

Additionally, ULA/AA officials provided security briefings to remember the victims and to prevent similar violent incidents from occurring again in the future.  

An official from the Arakha Army (AA) expressed deep sorrow and stated that the incident of August 25, 2017, remains painfully remembered to this day. He added that security measures regarding ARSA's terrorist activities in the region will be prioritized.  

The official also announced that the monument and memorial site built to commemorate this tragic event will be well renovated and maintained. He urged future generations to remain cautious and not fall for the incitements of terrorist groups.  

On August 25, 2017, during the conflicts in northern Arakan, ARSA terrorists brutally killed Hindu people alongside other communities.  

Ma Marina, a Hindu woman, shared: "We Hindus live here peacefully and earn an honest living. At that time, ARSA came to our village to recruit people. Some joined them, but many did not. Neighboring villagers were also involved in the mass killing of Hindus. Among the 113 people killed by ARSA were my husband and family members. We had only been married for 8 days."  

The Arakha Army (AA) highlighted the need to prioritize regional security to prevent such incidents from happening again and emphasized the necessity of continuously monitoring activities related to ARSA.  

Furthermore, local residents were urged to report any suspicious activities to security officials and to strictly adhere to security instructions.  

It was noted that past violent acts must be preserved as historical records, and local public cooperation with vigilance is essential to ensure similar events do not recur.
