A senior member of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) was shot dead in a refugee camp in Bangladesh on the evening of March 20, according to local sources.

The incident took place at Camp No. 15 in the Jamtoli market area during a busy period. The victim, identified as Salim, also known as Lawbar Salim, was reportedly targeted at close range by an unidentified gunman armed with a small firearm.

The shooting occurred at approximately 8:10 p.m. while the market was crowded. Salim sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a medical facility, but was declared dead upon arrival.

Witnesses said the gunfire caused panic among civilians in the market, forcing many to flee for safety. The assailant reportedly escaped before security forces arrived at the scene.

Salim was taken to a clinic operated by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) within the camp. Medical sources indicated that the gunshot wound, which penetrated the chest and exited through the back, was fatal.

Authorities have opened an investigation into the killing and are reportedly examining possible links between the attacker and the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO), another armed group active in the camps.

Security conditions in the refugee camps remain fragile, with ongoing rivalries and clashes among armed groups continuing to pose significant risks to residents.
