Bangladeshi fishing boats frequently trespass into Arakan territorial waters to poach fish. To crack down on these illegal activities, a coastal security patrol using two speedboats departed from the Nga Khu Ra coastal area on 25 November 2025 at 05:30 AM.
During the patrol, authorities intercepted and arrested a second illegal fishing boat approximately 3.43 nautical miles west of Kyein Taung village, in Kyaukphyu Township. The first boat was captured at approximately 6:34 AM.
The wooden boat was carrying six Bangladeshi fishermen and the following items were confiscated:
30 six-layer fishing nets
66 viss (approximately 108 kg) of fish
2 keypad mobile phones
The boat, the six fishermen, and all seized items have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal action.

It is reported that between January and July 18, 2025, Arakan authorities released approximately 188 Bangladeshi fishermen and 30 boats in the spirit of maintaining good bilateral relations. However, due to the lack of appropriate respect and reciprocal constructive response from Bangladeshi authorities, subsequent intruders have been detained and are being prosecuted under the law.
