The Arakan authorities are intensifying efforts to curb the rising incidents of illegal fishing by Bangladeshi fishermen in Arakan territorial waters. The apparent inaction or negligence by Border Guard Bangladesh has contributed to an increasingly disrupted environment along the Naf River on the Arakan side.
On August 26, 2025, authorities seized five boats in two separate operations: two in the first instance and three in the second. Below is evidence of the three illegal fishing activities in the second time in Arakan territorial waters.
At approximately 1:00 PM, a third wooden fishing boat with five Bangladeshi nationals was apprehended 1.5 kilometers west of Kyaukpanduy Village. The authorities confiscated one fishing net and approximately 30 viss (a traditional unit of weight) of fish and shrimp.
At around 2:15 PM, a fourth wooden fishing boat with seven fishermen was detained 1.94 kilometers west of Kyaukpanduy Beach. Authorities seized four fishing nets, approximately 80 viss of fish, and two mobile phones.
At approximately 2:20 PM, a fifth fishing boat with seven fishermen was apprehended 1.47 kilometers southwest of Kyaukpanduy Village. The authorities confiscated ten fishing nets and approximately 120 viss of fish.

Despite prohibitions on illegal fishing within Arakan territorial waters, Bangladeshi fishing boats continue to violate these restrictions. In total, the operations resulted in the seizure of five fishing boats, 30 fishermen, approximately 262 viss of fish, 30 fishing nets, and five mobile phones in both first and second times.
The Arakan authorities are preparing to take action against the repeated violations by Bangladeshi fishermen. The current situation clearly indicates a lack of cooperative response from Border Guard Bangladesh.
