Illegal fishing by individuals from Bangladesh persists within Arakan’s maritime territory. According to the latest reports, on September 10, 2025, a total of 40 fishermen were apprehended from five fishing boats in a single day. The incidents are detailed as follows:
At approximately 08:00, a fishing boat carrying seven fishermen was seized.
At around 10:30, another fishing boat with six fishermen was apprehended.
At 13:15, a third wooden boat with ten fishermen was captured approximately 6.75 kilometers off the western coast of Koetan-Kauk village in Rathedaung Township.
At 13:18, a fourth wooden boat with ten fishermen was seized.
At 13:30, a fifth wooden boat with seven fishermen was apprehended approximately 6.72 kilometers off the western coast of the abandoned Chainkharli village.

Despite efforts by the Bangladesh Border Guard to prevent illegal fishing in Arakan’s maritime territory, fishermen continue to engage in unauthorized fishing activities, underscoring the need for more effective measures to address the issue.
The 40 fishermen detained today will be handed over to the relevant authorities by the Arakan Coast Guard for legal action in accordance with Arakan’s laws.
