Arakan Army (AA) Grants Amnesty to Some Prisoners of War Captured During Combat Periods in Arakan Region

The Arakan Army (AA) announced today, March 20, that a ceremony to grant amnesty to some prisoners of war who were captured during combat periods in Arakan Region was held on March 14, 2026, at Alpha-1 Military Region of the Arakan Army (AA).
According to the announcement, the prisoners of war who were granted amnesty were those captured during previous combat periods in Arakan Region. Some were designated as prisoners of war after surrendering or being detained during frontline battles, military base attacks, and other security operations.

The announcement also stated that after being captured by the Arakan Army (AA), they were designated as prisoners of war and detained in accordance with humanitarian regulations and principles.
During the amnesty ceremony, Ma May Thazin Win, a family member of one of the prisoners of war, expressed gratitude on behalf of the families and stated that the families of the prisoners of war felt at ease with the Arakan Army's (AA) detention practices.
Although fighting continues in Arakan Region at present, the Arakan Army (AA) continues to grant amnesty to prisoners of war.
On March 4 of this year, 30 civilian detainees, including military and police prisoners of war, were granted amnesty in Paletwa Township. The Arakan Army (AA) has now granted amnesty to nearly 2,000 prisoners of war in Arakan Region, including in Paletwa Township.
