News January 25, 2026

In Mrauk U City, Rakhine State, some ancient treasure items used during the Mrauk U period under the Arakanese kings, along with more than 150 silver coins, have been discovered, according to reports.

On January 24, around 5 p.m., the items were found while children were playing football. The discoveries include one jade stone approximately 1 inch in size, one gold purse, three gold rings, small gold fragments, and more than 150 silver coins bearing the names of Arakanese kings Chandrasuddhammaraza and Narapatigyi.

The coins found are genuine silver pieces. They include coins used during the reign of Chandrasuddhammaraza, the golden throne holder in the third Mrauk U period of the Arakanese era (1034), as well as genuine silver coins from the reign of Narapatigyi (also known as the white elephant lord and red elephant lord) in the year 1000 of the Arakanese era.

The two individuals who discovered the items are Maung Phyo Myat Oo, a 7th-grade student, and Maung Soe Aung Min, a 5th-grade student.

"We were playing football around 5 p.m. when I slipped and looked down, and I saw one or two coins. When we dug a little, everything came out. We dug in about two places and got them all. When we asked the adults, they said we had to hand them over to the administrator, so they took us there. Now, I've heard they've been sent to the township administrator's office," said Maung Phyo Myat Oo, one of the discoverers, to AB News.

Currently, members of the DLEPS unit from the Arakkha People's Revolutionary Government are providing security and guarding the site where the ancient items were excavated.
