ULA Leads Planting of Hundreds of Thousands of Shade Trees Under the "Green Arakkha" Initiative

In an effort to balance the climate and green the environment in Arakan, the United League of Arakan (ULA) is leading a monsoon tree-planting initiative under the "Green Arakkha" project, with hundreds of thousands of shade trees being planted.

The tree-planting campaign, which commenced in the first week of June, is led by the United League of Arakan (ULA). The initiative sees active and enthusiastic participation from ULA party members, party youth forces, local administrative members of the Arakkha People's Revolutionary Government (APRG), staff from the Humanitarian and Development Coordination Office (HDCO), firefighters, local youth organizations, and the general public.

In the past, although various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and social organizations carried out tree-planting activities in Arakan, a lack of systematic care and long-term maintenance after planting resulted in low survival rates, causing many young trees to wither and perish.

To address these past shortcomings, the current initiative combines "tree planting with long-term preservation and care." A system has been introduced where those who plant the trees are held personally responsible for nurturing and maintaining them to ensure every planted tree grows and survives.

In recent years, local populations have been bearing the brunt of global warming and facing erratic climate changes due to progressive deforestation and an increase in forest fires.

To prevent such natural disasters and restore the damaged ecosystem, this monsoon tree-planting season has been designated as part of a reforestation process, with shade trees being planted through collective and strenuous community efforts.
