The traditional religious festival of the Hindu community, the Shree Shree Chandi Mother Durga Puja Festival, has been grandly celebrated starting from October 16 in Maungdaw and Buthidaung Townships within Maungdaw District, Arakan Region.

The festival is being held under the supervision of the District Ethnic Affairs Committee of the United League of Arakan (ULA), with the active participation and joint celebration of local Hindu devotees, residents, and departmental staff.

During the festival, ceremonies including welcoming and worshipping Mother Chandi, playing traditional drums, and various religious rituals are being conducted.

Locals noted that the festival is an important event showcasing the religious beliefs and traditional culture of the Hindu community, highlighting equality and the freedom of worship among people of different ethnicities and faiths.

Although the festival was scaled down in previous years due to airstrikes by the terrorist military, this year's celebrations were reported to be noticeably more vibrant right from the first day.

In addition to preserving and reflecting Hindu traditional culture, the Durga Puja Festival underscores the importance of interfaith mutual respect and social harmony in the region.

Maungdaw District in the Arakan Region is home to a diverse population with varying religious faiths, who are seen living together in social harmony under the administration of the Arakkha People's Revolutionary Government.
