The Arakan Authorities Arrested an Illegal Fishing Boat from Bangladesh

At 06:55 on October 27, 2025, a wooden boat carrying four (4) fishermen from the Teknaf Island area of Bangladesh entered Arakan territorial waters and was observed deploying a drift net approximately 800 meters west of Na Khaungtaw outpost to catch fish.


Due to this illegal intrusion and fishing activity, a coastal security patrol attempted to apprehend the vessel. The boat fled but was pursued and successfully seized at 08:10, approximately 1.3 kilometers northwest of Na Khaungtaw outpost.

The boat contained four (4) fishermen, ten (10) four-panel gill nets, and one (1) keypad mobile phone. As a result, for illegally entering Arakan waters and poaching fish, the individuals and vessel have been detained in accordance with Arakan law and transferred to the relevant authorities for interrogation and legal action.

Between January and July 18, 2025, Arakan authorities released approximately 188 Bangladeshi fishermen and 30 boats in the spirit of maintaining good bilateral relations. However, due to the lack of appropriate respect and reciprocal response from Bangladeshi authorities, subsequent intruders have been detained and are being prosecuted under the law.
