In Buthidaung Township, currently under the control of the Arakan Army (AA), mutual trust and friendly relations between the Arakanese and Muslim communities have strengthened more than before, according to Arakan Bay News' field reporting.
Local Muslim residents stated that under the administration of the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government, people enjoy equal rights regardless of their ethnicity or religion.
During the previous rule of the military junta (Military Council), the Muslim community had lost many basic rights, including freedom of movement, access to education, and healthcare services.
“Under the Military Council, whenever we traveled, we were constantly questioned, extorted for money, and treated inhumanely. Now, under ULA/AA administration, we can move freely and fully enjoy a sense of security,” said Rawhein, a local Muslim resident of Buthidaung.
At present, schools in Buthidaung township are operating without discrimination, with Arakanese and Muslim students studying together in the same classrooms.

Members of the Muslim community said this reflects efforts to rebuild social harmony after overcoming ethnic tensions that had persisted for more than a decade.
Economic and social relations between the two communities have also improved, with increased trade and closer interpersonal interactions compared to the past.
During the battle for control of Buthidaung, the Military Council, in cooperation with certain extremist groups, burned parts of the town and looted civilian property. However, after the AA gained control, it rapidly implemented law enforcement measures and reconstruction efforts.
Local residents noted that stability and peace in the Buthidaung township have become more firmly established as the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government actively implements policies promoting peaceful coexistence among diverse ethnic and religious communities across Arakan State.
