Two young men from Minbya Township were killed in a landmine explosion attributed to the ARSA terrorists while transporting goods on a hand-tractor near the border in Maungdaw Township, on March 8, 2026.

The victims were identified as Win Myat Aung, 31, son of U Maung San Kyaw, and Soe Than Naing, 18, son of U Thint Ka Kyaw. Both originally hailed from Khaung Laung Ywar Thit Village in Minbya Township but had been working in Kha Maung Seik village, Maungdaw Township, earning a living by using a hand-tractor (trawlargy) with trolley to carry goods for hire.

At approximately 11:20 AM on March 8, the two departed from Kha Maung Seik village heading toward Border Post BP-42 to transport consumer goods. About 2.7 kilometers northwest of the village, they were struck by a landmine detonation at around 11:40 AM. The blast, carried out by ARSA militants according to the local sources, killed both men instantly. Their bodies were not recovered from the scene, and the hand-tractor was completely destroyed.

The incident highlights the ongoing danger to civilian transporters in northern Rakhine State's border region, where ARSA and other armed militant groups have been active. Landmine attacks, ambushes, and improvised explosive devices targeting local movement and trade remain a persistent threat in the area near BP-42 and along cross-border routes.
