Six civilians from Mee Taik village in Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, were abducted by a group of terrorists while fishing near the Myanmar-Bangladesh border on March 9, 2026.


The incident occurred around 6:15 AM when six local residents, including 28-year-old Nyi Maung Tun, were heading to fish in the Mee Taik Creek area near the abandoned village close to Ye Aung Chaung (or similar local name).



The armed terrorists, reportedly consisting of 9 to 13 individuals, captured the civilians and took them to a hiding spot in the forest between Mee Taik and Border Post (BP) 35. They remained concealed there until around 7:00 PM, then moved toward the border fence between BP-35 and BP-36, crossing into Bangladesh territory around 8:40 PM.


One of the abducted individuals, Nyi Maung Tun (aged 28), managed to escape from the captors after they entered Bangladesh. He returned and reached Border Post 37 around 8:50 PM, where he reported the incident to authorities.


According to his statement, he could retrace the path taken by the abductors. All six abducted civilians are from Mee Taike and belong to the Daingnet ethnic community.

  • Hla Htun Kyaw (32 years old)

  • Ka La Ya (29 years old)

  • U Kway Maung (32 years old)

  • Ba Sha Aung (37 years old)

  • A child named A Chay ( 10 years old)
