On November 19, 2025, the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on East Asia & the Pacific and the Subcommittee on South & Central Asia held a joint hearing titled “No Exit Strategy: Burma’s Endless Crisis and America’s Limited Options.” The session attracted widespread attention, largely because of its focus on the ongoing scam-center operations in Karen State, Myanmar.
However, one statement made by Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove was deeply misleading. While reading her prepared remarks, she claimed: “The Arakan Army, an ethnic armed organization that resumed fighting the military junta in late 2023, has massacred the Rohingya in the territory under its control.”
This accusation is completely unfounded and contradicts credible local sources. Insiders report that the sentence was inserted into her speech by certain Rohingya/Bengali diaspora activists who consistently misrepresent the situation on the ground.

Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove should immediately retract her statement about the Arakan Army. Her words not only lack evidence but also risk causing serious harm to social cohesion and the prospects for peaceful coexistence among all communities in Arakan.
It appears she may have been referring to the widely disputed “Htan Shauk Khan incident,” an event that has been heavily distorted by some Muslim diaspora groups. The United League of Arakan (ULA) government has repeatedly and publicly invited national and international media to investigate the facts and expose the falsehoods surrounding that incident.
