The Myanmar military launched a series of airstrikes targeting Mrauk-U town in Rakhine State late Tuesday evening, causing residents to seek shelter in bunkers as bombs fell across the area.
According to local sources, military fighter jets began circling the town before dropping at least 20 bombs starting around 9:05 p.m. local time. The aerial bombardment was still ongoing at the time of reporting.
"The bombing started around 9:05 p.m. and hasn't stopped," a local resident said. "Everyone is hiding in bunkers in fear. It appears the bombs landed near Let Kaung Zee Ward and Maung Thar Kone village."
Casualties and the full extent of structural damage remain unconfirmed as residents stay hidden while jet aircraft continue to operate overhead. Further updates will follow as the situation develops.
