Local Mro Man Killed After Stepping on Mine Planted by ARSA/RSO Militants in Maungdaw, Arakan

A local ethnic Mro man was killed in Maungdaw Township on November 14 after stepping on a landmine allegedly planted by the extremist Islamist militant groups ARSA/RSO. The explosion occurred at around 8:30 a.m.


The victim has been identified as U Daung Rwaing, 42, a resident of Khontine Village in Maungdaw Township.

According to a local resident who spoke to Arakan Princess Media, U Daung Rwaing had left home at around 6:30 a.m. with fellow villagers to cut bamboo near the area between Labawwa Chaung and Sanphara Chaung. He reportedly stepped on the mine believed to have been planted by ARSA/RSO, resulting in an immediate blast.


The explosion severed his left leg, and he died while being transported for medical treatment.

His funeral was held on November 15 at 2:00 p.m., where his body was cremated.
