On February 8, 2026, at approximately 1:35 PM, an air attack carried out by the junta military forces targeted a residential neighborhood in Thandwe Township, Thandwe town, Ward No. 3, along Bo Gyoke Road.

According to an initial report submitted by the Thandwe District Administration Department, the air strike caused severe injuries to at least two civilians:

  • U Aung Than Lwin (approximately 50 years old), who sustained a broken left arm.

  • U Thet Aung (approximately 50 years old), who suffered a serious head injury with skull fracture.

The attack also resulted in significant property damage, with nine neighboring homes completely destroyed or heavily damaged. The affected households include those of Daw Aye, Daw Chann May, U Tin Aung, U La Lu, U Mo, Daw Htwe Kyi, and Ko Nge Nge.

The district administration described the incident as a deliberate terrorist drone attack by the junta, emphasizing the harm inflicted on innocent civilians and residential areas with no military presence reported in the vicinity.

Local sources indicate that this strike is part of ongoing aerial operations by junta forces in southern Rakhine State, where Thandwe Township has seen intensified military activity despite being largely under Arakan Army (AA) control since late 2024. Such airstrikes have repeatedly targeted or affected civilian zones in the region, leading to casualties and displacement.
