Airstrikes Launched by Military Junta on Three Townships in Arakan Kill One Civilian and Injure Three Others

In Arakan, airstrikes launched by the terrorist military commission on villages inhabited by innocent civilians across Anjanapura, Weerathani, and Gwa townships today, September 21, left one civilian dead and three others injured, including a student.

The military commission forces conducted the airstrikes today, September 21, targeting Thit Poke Taung Village in Anjanapura Township, Taung Phoo Village in Weerathani Township, and Sat Thwar Village in Gwa Township.

In Taung Phoo Village, Weerathani Township, bombs exploded near the local monastery and the Taung Phoo Pagoda, killing 34-year-old Ma Win Myat Aye from a severe head injury and wounding 42-year-old Daw Aye Khin Thein in her right shoulder from shrapnel.

Additionally, at around 11:00 AM today, 300-pound bombs exploded in Sat Thwar Village, Gwa Township, injuring 14-year-old Grade-8 student Maung Zwe Htet Aung and 44-year-old U Nay Aung. Both were rushed to nearby emergency healthcare facilities.

Similarly, at approximately 12:40 PM today, two bombs were dropped from the air on Thit Poke Taung Village in Anjanapura Township one between the hills east of the central monastery and another in the valley near the village entrance causing minor damage to several residential houses from shrapnel.

Since September 4, the military commission forces deployed army, navy, and air forces to launch an offensive into Ponnagyun Township. However, they were forced to retreat following heavy defeats and lost four outpost positions due to counter-offensives by the AA.

Military analysts assess that the military commission forces, having suffered major losses on the ground, are increasingly escalating airstrikes targeting non-military civilians.
