Mother and Daughter Killed by Military Commission Artillery Shelling in Zee Kaing Village, Rathedaung Township

A mother and her daughter were killed in Zee Kaing Village, Rathedaung Township, Arakha State, when artillery shells fired by the terrorist military commission from battalions based in Sittwe struck and exploded in the village yesterday morning, September 20.

The victims were identified as 72-year-old mother Daw Aye Nu Phyu and her 42-year-old daughter Daw Ma Shwe Tin from Zee Kaing Village.

As a result of the artillery shell explosion, the mother died after being hit by shrapnel above her left breast near the collarbone, while the daughter died from a shrapnel wound to the back of her head.

"The daughter called her mother to go shelter, but the mother wouldn't move. While they were talking, the artillery shell struck. All day today, they've been continuously firing artillery from Sittwe and dropping bombs from jets on this area," a local resident reported.

It was also reported that at around 4:30 PM today, the terrorist military group launched an airstrike on Rathedaung Township. Details regarding the targeted location and current situation are still under investigation.

Earlier on September 17, the terrorist military group launched an airstrike using incendiary bombs on Phet Kya Village in Ponnagyun Township, directly hitting a residential home that burned to the ground and leaving a local man severely injured.

Additionally, on the morning of September 17, fighter jets conducted near-continuous airstrikes throughout the day near Kwam Taung Village and the Min Chaung Bridge area in Ponnagyun Township.

Since September 4, the terrorist military group launched an offensive into Ponnagyun Township with over 1,000 troops divided into multiple columns. However, after facing defeats against the Arakan Army (AA), they have been continuously targeting non-military civilian residential areas with airstrikes and heavy artillery shelling.
