The Humanitarian and Development Cooperation Office (HDCO) issued a statement on February 24th, strongly condemning a targeted airstrike by the terrorist fascist military junta on Yoe Ngu Village in Ponnagyun Township, Arakan State, which resulted in the deaths of civilian villagers.

The statement said, "Today, February 24, 2026, at approximately 2:07 PM, the air force of the Myanmar terrorist military council deliberately targeted and carried out an airstrike using a jet fighter, dropping bombs on the market stalls inside Yoe Ngu Village in Ponnagyun Township, Arakan State."

It reported that this deliberate attack on civilians resulted in the immediate deaths of 17 innocent civilians, with approximately 14 others injured. "We vehemently oppose and condemn this cruel act of violence committed by the Myanmar military council against innocent people," the statement added.

Among the dead and injured are innocent children and elderly individuals. Several civilian homes and market shops were also damaged or destroyed, according to the statement.

HDCO stated that bombing villages with no military significance in broad daylight constitutes a blatant commission of international war crimes and crimes against humanity. This action is a flagrant violation of the fundamental principles protecting civilians enshrined in the Geneva Conventions.

At the same time, HDCO expressed its profound sorrow alongside the families of those affected and stated that it is coordinating with other relevant Arakanese bodies to provide necessary assistance as quickly as possible.

Furthermore, HDCO earnestly called on the international community to take effective action to deter and address the violent acts of the military council.
