DLEPS Recaptures One of Two Rape Suspects Who Escaped Sittwe District Detention Center

The Department of Law Enforcement and Public Security (DLEPS) has recaptured one of two suspects detained under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape who had escaped from the Sittwe District Detention Center in Arakan.

The two suspects escaped from the Sittwe District Detention Center on May 7 at around 4:42 PM. Among them, U Kyaw Win Chay has been recaptured.

The recaptured individual is 51-year-old U Kyaw Win Chay from Greik Chaung Village in Wirathani Township. He had been arrested and prosecuted for allegedly raping a 34-year-old woman residing at the Kyan Khinn IDP camp in Ponnagyun Township.

U Kyaw Win Chay was apprehended on July 26 at around 9:00 PM in Pyin Won Village, Myebon Township, Anjanapura District, with the cooperation of the local village administrator and administrative team.

During the arrest, authorities seized one motorboat, a Honda 9 HP engine, an Infinix smartphone, and a Realme smartphone from U Kyaw Win Chay.

Meanwhile, 44-year-old rape suspect U Bo Than Win from Kyan Taing Aung Village in Rathedaung Township remains at large. DLEPS is continuing its search operations to recapture him as quickly as possible.
