Arakkha People's Revolutionary Government Repairing and Upgrading Deteriorated Inter-Town and Inter-Village Roads in Sittwe District

News February 3, 2026

In Sittwe District, Arakan State, the Arakkha People's Revolutionary Government is carrying out repair and rehabilitation work on inter-town and inter-village road sections that were damaged during the fighting period and the rainy season, according to local residents.

A responsible official told Golden Era Media that all the inter-town and inter-village roads in Sittwe District that were destroyed during the 2023 fighting period and the rainy season have been undergoing repair and upgrading since January.

“We started repairing the roads since last January. In Sittwe District, on the long-distance highways, the damaged sections, inter-village roads, roads destroyed during the fighting period, as well as sections that were damaged during the rainy season — all of these are being repaired so that the general public can travel more conveniently,” he said.

A resident of Rathedaung Township stated that before the fighting, roads in Sittwe District were already in poor condition and traffic rules were not enforced, which frequently led to road accidents. Now, thanks to the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government enforcing traffic regulations and repairing damaged roads, the number of traffic accidents has noticeably decreased compared to the past.

It is learned that repair work on the following major routes and sections is approximately 80% complete:

  • Ponnagyun – Rathedaung highway

  • Rathedaung – Buthidaung highway

  • Various inter-village road sections

Although the Arakkha People's Revolutionary Government is repairing these damaged roads to facilitate easier travel for local residents, some road sections still have remaining needs due to insufficient machinery and the very high cost of materials and repairs, according to sources.
