Arakkha Health Department Providing Healthcare to Displaced Muslims from Northern Maungdaw

News January 3, 2026

In Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State, the Arakkha Health Department has been observed providing healthcare services and humanitarian assistance to Muslim residents who were forced to relocate for safety due to threats from the ARSA and RSO armed groups.

A total of 27 households, comprising 92 individuals, from the villages of Phaklipyin (Fak Li Pyin) and Kyauk Chaung in northern Maungdaw were relocated by the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government to a safe location.

Among the displaced persons are 16 children under five years old and 8 breastfeeding mothers.

For these residents, who faced difficult transportation and were far from healthcare services, the Arakkha Health Department is providing free medical treatment.

A Muslim resident from Phaklipyin village, Sharifa, said: "Before, we had hardly ever seen a hospital or clinic. Now, with the AA providing free treatment regardless of ethnicity or religion, we no longer have to worry about health issues."

Trust and friendship between the Rakhine and Muslim communities in townships controlled by the Arakan Army have noticeably improved.

Additionally, according to on-the-ground observations, the Arakkha Health Department is also regularly administering routine vaccinations to pregnant mothers and young children.
