Veteran Arakanese National Revolutionary Leader Major Maung Saw Yin Passes Away

Major Maung Saw Yin (aged 77), a veteran revolutionary and patriotic leader who consistently participated in the Arakanese armed revolution for several decades, passed away on May 11, 2026.


Major Maung Saw Yin died at 8:00 AM on May 11 in Byaing Ma Tauk Village, Bandarban District, Bangladesh, due to age-related illnesses. It is reported that his funeral was successfully held on May 12.


From a young age, Major Maung Saw Yin chose the path of armed revolution and dedicated himself fully to the liberation of the Arakanese people.


A prominent milestone in his revolutionary history was his leading role on the front lines during the Arakan Communist Party’s (ACP) attack and capture of Minbya Town in 1978.


In addition to his mother party, the ACP, he later actively participated in the National United Front of Arakan (NUFA), the National United Party of Arakan (NUPA), and the Arakan Army (AA) led by General Bo Raza, striving tirelessly for the unity of Arakanese revolutionary forces.


Throughout his revolutionary career, Major Maung Saw Yin was a leader who stood firm and never surrendered or knelt before the enemy. Disregarding personal gain and enduring various hardships, he remained steadfastly committed to the national unity of the Arakanese people until his death.


"The passing of Major Maung Saw Yin, who was a symbol of loyalty, decisiveness, and honesty, is a great loss for the Arakanese revolutionary community," his fellow comrades stated in a respectful tribute.


His funeral was held on the afternoon of May 12 in Byaing Ma Tauk Village, attended by approximately 300 people, including revolutionary comrades and local residents.


Having stood with an unchanging spirit through the various shifts of the revolutionary eras, the name of Major Maung Saw Yin will remain forever in Arakanese revolutionary history as an exemplary leader.
