Two Muslim Youths Brutally Murdered by Terrorist Group ARSA

Two Muslim youths from Abu Jar (Muslim) village in northern Maungdaw Township, Maungdaw District, have died after being subjected to inhumane torture and killing by the terrorist militant group ARSA (Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army).

The victims have been identified as Marmat Sawlam (35), son of U Ardu Mein, and Marmat Enus, son of U Bawsir Ahmat, both residents of Abu Jar (Muslim) village.

According to reports, the two men left for their prawn farm at approximately 3:00 PM on March 27 to act as night watchmen. When they failed to return home on the morning of March 28, the village administrator and local residents launched a search but were initially unable to find them.

The village administrator subsequently reported the disappearance to the DLEPS. Following a joint search operation between DLEPS officials and villagers, the bodies of the two young men were discovered on April 1.

The remains were found at an abandoned prawn farm about 800 meters northeast of the village. Witnesses stated that the bodies were found in a gruesome condition: their hands were tied, their throats had been slit, and they bore severe wounds.

Villagers Adu Bawshawr and Marmat Juna, who assisted in the recovery, noted that the killers had attempted to conceal the bodies by covering them with large stones.

Marmat Sawlam’s father stated: "My son did not drink or get into fights. He was never a troublemaker. They slit his throat and stabbed him in the chest. I want the government to take action regarding this matter."

Similarly, the father of Marmat Enus shared his grief: "My son had no issues with drinking or quarreling, nor did he have any financial disputes. He was working as a laborer on a boat to support our family. Now that he is gone, we are facing great hardship. I demand that action be taken against the extremist terrorist group that killed my son."

Authorities also discovered suspicious items near the crime scene. About 200 meters from where the bodies were found, blankets bearing the UNHCR logo were discovered in a deserted compound in Baw Thee village, suggesting that the terrorist group may have used the location as a temporary camp.

Due to these findings and the nature of the crime, local residents believe the murders were carried out by ARSA, an Islamic extremist militant group known for active terrorist operations in northern Maungdaw.

The brutal killing of these two youths has caused widespread fear among the Muslim community in northern Maungdaw, leading to urgent calls for authorities to take decisive action against ARSA for their ongoing acts of violence.

A similar incident occurred on April 22, 2024, in the same village of Abu Jar (Thayet Oke village tract), where the bodies of five Muslim men murdered by ARSA were discovered near a prawn pond.
