Two Bangladeshi Youths Killed, 20 Injured in BSF Firing

Two Bangladeshi youths were killed and approximately 20 others were injured after the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire near the Brahmanbaria border. The incident occurred at around 12:30 PM on Friday, May 8, near the Pathariadwar border in the Gopinathpur Union of Kasba Upazila.
One of the deceased is identified as a 22-year-old male from Dhvajnagar Bataan Bari, an HSC candidate at Gopinathpur Shah Alam Degree College. The other victim is 40-year-old Nabir Hussain from Madhupur village. According to family members, both bodies are currently being held at Agartala GB Hospital in India.
According to family members and local sources, a group of about 25 people carrying goods from a house headed toward the Pathariadwar border around midnight on Friday. While Nabir Hussain and others were at the border location, BSF personnel opened fire, resulting in the deaths of Mohammad Ali and Nabir Hussain.
Ripon Pathan, a resident of Dhvajnagar, stated: "As far as I know, about 20 to 25 people went toward the border that night. Some were injured by BSF firing while others managed to flee." It is reported that out of the 20 injured, those in critical condition were sent to Cumilla Hospital, while those with minor injuries are being treated at local clinics.
Sabur Khan, a resident of Madhupur, confirmed he received news of the two deaths and had met with one of the victim's families. The son of Nabir Hussain stated that his father had been missing from home since that evening and later received confirmation that he was shot and his body taken by the BSF after reaching the border.
According to Subedar Mohin Uddin, commander of the Chandidwar post, the bodies are currently near two BSF camps. Following the conclusion of a flag meeting, the remains are expected to be handed over by the BSF to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Authorities confirmed that an official letter has been sent to the BSF regarding the matter, and the BGB has also been notified.
