Terrorist Military Council Arrests Muslim Administrative Officer in Sittwe Township

News January 5, 2026

In Pinlin Pyin village, Sittwe Township (also known as Sittwe), Rakhine State, which is under the control of the terrorist State Administration Council (SAC, commonly called the military junta), a Muslim serving as an administrative officer was arrested by the SAC on December 30 around 11 a.m., sources report.

The arrested individual is Sao Yaw Aung Mi (also spelled Saw Yaw Aami), 36 years old, son of U Pho Zu. He was taken by seven soldiers from Infantry Battalion (373), based in Sittwe, who arrived in a vehicle and detained him from the village.

As of now, about a week has passed since his arrest, with no release or information on his whereabouts, leaving his family deeply worried and anxious.

In Sittwe Township, still held by SAC troops, locals report ongoing arbitrary arrests of civilians without cause, nighttime house raids leading to unexplained detentions, and intimidation or torture of detainees under pretexts like extracting information. Detainees are often held long-term without family visits, communication, adequate food, or nutrition. Innocent civilians also face violent treatment, according to residents.
