The Maungdaw District Chakma Ethnic Affairs Committee has strongly urged all ethnic nationalities residing within the Arakan region to collaborate with a full sense of responsibility and accountability across all sectors to achieve the final victory of the revolution and to rebuild the nation.
This call to action was included in an official position statement issued by the committee regarding a recent incident in Thinbawhla Village, Maungdaw Township.
According to the statement, prior to the arrival of officials from the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) to provide clarifications regarding the NDEP, a group of Thinbawhla villagers—identified as U Aung Kyaw Sein, U Maung Tun Sein, U Myint Maung, U Sein Tun Kyaw, and Bhila Zaw (who is currently at large)—had pre-emptively instigated riots and violence.
The statement noted that when the ULA/AA officials arrived, they were surrounded by a mob that hurled profanities and threatened them while wielding weapons, including sticks and knives.
The statement further explained that ULA/AA officials collaborated with local village administration teams to defuse the chaotic situation and restore order. However, due to the uncontrollable nature of the unrest, the key perpetrators orchestrating the violence were ultimately detained and placed under custody.
Currently, administrative departments of the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government, alongside members of the District Chakma Ethnic Affairs Committee, have conducted field visits to Thinbawhla Village to meet with local residents and clarify the situation. The committee stated that the situation has now stabilized and returned to normalcy.
Furthermore, the statement addressed overseas-based Chakma organizations and Buddhist monks who have issued unilateral condemnations against the ULA/AA without a thorough, firsthand understanding of the situation on the ground. The committee criticized these statements as counterproductive, noting that instead of solving the issues, such actions serve to agitate the situation and harm peaceful co-existence.
The committee concluded by warning the public to remain highly vigilant against malicious groups seeking to exploit these events as a weapon for their own political interests by manufacturing religious and racial discord in the Arakan region, urging citizens to avoid becoming pawns in these divisive narratives.
