The Central Customs and Revenue Department of the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government has officially launched the sales of the "Arakan Lottery" today, June 1, across the entire Arakan, including Paletwa District, according to revenue officials and local residents.
Local sources reported that the lottery tickets went on sale as early as 7:00 AM this morning at official outlets opened by the district and township lottery sub-departments under the Central Customs and Revenue Department.
The tickets are being sold at 1,000 MMK per ticket, or 10,000 MMK for a booklet of ten tickets, in various townships across the Arakan region, including Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Minbya, Ann, Taungup, and Paletwa.
"The sales started this morning. I bought two tickets myself, which cost 1,000 MMK per ticket. Since the lottery has just been introduced, there are a lot of people buying them," a resident reported.
In Paletwa District, sales also commenced this morning, with the township revenue department stating that approximately 20,000 lottery tickets will be distributed and sold across three major designated locations within the district.
An official from the Central Customs and Revenue Department stated that the lottery will be distributed through authorized agents starting next month. The official added that the sales format and the prize distribution system may be adjusted depending on future circumstances.
The Arakan Lottery tickets feature a six-digit number. The prize pool includes a first prize of 50 million MMK (500 Lakhs), a second prize of 30 million MMK (300 Lakhs), a third prize of 10 million MMK (100 Lakhs), six fourth-place prizes of 5 million MMK (50 Lakhs) each, ten fifth-place prizes of 1 million MMK (10 Lakhs) each, and twenty sixth-place prizes of 500,000 MMK (5 Lakhs) each.
The initiative aims to curb and eliminate illegal gambling activities among the general public in Arakan. The winning lottery numbers are scheduled to be drawn on the 1st day of every month.
According to department sources, 50 percent of the total revenue generated from ticket sales will be allocated toward the prize pool, while the remaining 50 percent will be utilized to fund regional development projects, including the construction of roads and bridges, as well as education and healthcare services.
