A civilian was killed and numerous homes were destroyed by fire after the terrorist Myanmar military launched heavy artillery and drone strikes targeting Sane Town in Kyaukphyu Township, Arakan, on May 26.
The casualty has been identified as 78-years-old U Maung Shwe Sein. According to local sources, U Maung Shwe Sein sustained severe injuries during the military's bombardment and succumbed to his wounds while being transported to receive emergency medical treatment.
During the assault, the military forces deployed drones to attack the town, while naval vessels stationed near Kalarma Island and Phayon Island fired approximately 30 artillery shells consecutively into urban areas.
The relentless shelling triggered widespread fires, decimating a large number of civilian residential properties.
This latest attack follows a previous aerial bombardment on May 19, during which the junta deployed four jet fighters and a Y-20 transport aircraft to bomb the Shwe Hintha Ward of Sane Town. That airstrike resulted in a massive blaze that reduced nearly the entire ward, including around 100 homes, to ashes.
Faced with consecutive military defeats and territorial losses on the frontlines, the terrorist military council forces have been unable to gain an advantage in direct clashes against the Arakan Army. Consequently, the military has increasingly abandoned conventional military targets to intentionally attack civilians and residential villages across the region.
