Pauktaw Town is strategically important as it is located close to Sittwe Town and connected by waterways.

In November 2023, intense battles for the capture of Pauktaw Town occurred, and due to military conflicts within the town, thousands of civilian residents had to flee and seek refuge in safe areas.

Currently, the town is captured and controlled by the Arakan Army, and Military Commission forces frequently conduct artillery attacks on targets in the surrounding township and town for tactical military advantage. Local news sources report that these shelling incidents are causing increasing harm to civilians.

AB News is continuing to investigate further details regarding the current incident and the conditions of the injured individuals.
