In Rakhine State, within Maungdaw Township, Arakan Bay News has observed that the Arakan People's Health Department is conducting on-the-ground field activities to provide free vaccinations to young children.

It has been learned that the Arakkha Health Department is administering vaccinations to children in Maungdaw Township from the age of 2 months up to 5 years.

The vaccines being administered include polio vaccine, hepatitis B vaccine, measles vaccine, meningitis vaccine, Japanese encephalitis vaccine, as well as vaccines for diphtheria, whooping cough, and tetanus. These are being systematically injected or orally administered according to the child's monthly or yearly schedule.

One child's mother said: "It's really great that they're providing these vaccinations now. For us war-displaced people, let alone vaccines, we have to search all day just to get one meal of rice. Some children are suffering from malnutrition. In between that, if they get sick, we don't have money to take them to a clinic. We don't even know what disease it is. Now that they're giving preventive vaccines in advance, it makes us feel more secure about the children's health."

Local residents say that due to the Arakan People's Health Department providing vaccinations to young children in this way, health-related worries have decreased for war-displaced people and locals who lack sufficient funds for medical treatment.

Locals also state that the Arakkha Health Department is administering vaccines to pregnant women and young children in liberated areas within Rakhine State.

It is known that the Arakan Army (AA) has captured and controls up to 14 townships in Rakhine State, and in addition to efforts to enable war-displaced people to return home, they are also carrying out reconstruction work in the region as well as providing health services.
