In Paletwa Township and Sami Township within Paletwa District, the Arakkha Health Department is providing the second round of free vaccinations to children (both from military and civilian families) aged from 2 months to 5 years old, according to the health department.

This vaccination campaign started on December 7 this month and is the second round being provided free of charge by the health department under the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government.

In the first round, children from 2 months to 3 years old were vaccinated. This second round extends the coverage to children from 2 months up to 5 years old, a health worker said.

A mother from Paletwa town who brought her child for vaccination expressed special gratitude to the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government for making vaccination possible for children in the Arakan region who had not received any vaccines for about two years due to the fighting.

“I haven’t been able to get my child vaccinated for nearly three years. My older children had received their shots before, but I was very worried because this child hadn’t gotten any vaccines. Now I’m extremely happy that my little daughter has finally received her vaccinations. I’m truly very grateful to the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government for making this possible,” she said.

The vaccines being administered to the children include those protecting against:

  • Diphtheria

  • Pertussis (whooping cough)

  • Tetanus (DPT)

  • Polio (OPV)

  • Severe diarrhea

  • Hepatitis B

  • Measles

  • Japanese encephalitis, and others.
