FDA Conducts Field Inspections of Cosmetics Shops in Paletwa and Ponnagyun

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) branch of the Arakan Public Health Department has been conducting field inspections across various townships to protect the public in Arakan State from using cosmetics containing hazardous chemical substances. Recent inspections were carried out in Paletwa and Ponnagyun towns.

On August 14, inspectors examined 12 cosmetics shops in Paletwa Township, finding banned cosmetics in eight shops and expired products in nine shops. Furthermore, an inspection of cosmetics shops in Ponnagyun Township on August 11 revealed prohibited cosmetic items in nine shops and expired products in eight shops.

Regarding these findings, the FDA confiscated the banned and expired items, required the shop owners to sign written pledges, and instructed them not to sell prohibited items in the future.

Previously in February, a total of 29 cosmetic products were banned under the ASEAN Post-Marketing Alert System (PMAS) Report program due to the presence of hazardous chemical substances harmful to health. As these cosmetics can enter Arakan State through various channels, the public is urged to exercise special caution.

The 29 prohibited cosmetics comprise 12 products from Thailand, eight from the Philippines, five from Indonesia, three from Malaysia (including JC BEAUTY CULTURE RADIANCE RENEWAL SERUM), and one from Brunei.

The FDA warned that these prohibited chemicals can cause skin irritation, inflammation, and red or white patches. Furthermore, if absorbed into the body through the skin, they can trigger numbness, muscle tremors, fatigue, headaches, and depression.

The FDA also emphasized that long-term use of these products can lead to severe health issues, including kidney damage.
