Eight local civilians, including children, were killed and seven others injured when the military junta launched an airstrike using three gyrocopters on a school and residential homes in Nyaung Pin Lay Village, Kani Township, Yinmabin District, Sagaing Region, local sources told.

At around 11:00 AM today, November 7, three gyrocopters taking off from the Northwestern Regional Military Command (Namaka) in Monywa dropped bombs on the school and homes in Nyaung Pin Lay Village, located in the southwestern part of Kani Township.

"There were no military activities in Nyaung Pin Lay. The casualties happened because they bombed inside the village. Fortunately, schools are currently closed; otherwise, many children would have been affected. The school building was damaged. Two bombs were dropped into the village, hitting both local residents and displaced persons," a local man told.

Local sources noted that the bombing occurred while local residents and internally displaced persons (IDPs) were residing in the village, despite the absence of clashes or military operations in Nyaung Pin Lay.

The military junta's bombing attack resulted in the deaths of eight local civilians: U Nyan Wai (65), U Win Bo (50), Ko Zaw Lin Oo (40), Ma Kyu Kyu Aye (33), Ko Myint Win (31), Ko Myint Tun (30), Ma Khin Myo Hlaing (25), and Ma Sabai Phyo (17). Furthermore, seven individuals sustained injuries, including a man over 50, a woman in her 30s, and five children aged 13, 7, 5, 4, and 2.

Previously, on October 21, the military junta also used gyrocopters and paramotors to bomb Nat La Po (South) and Nwar Chan Kone villages on the west bank of the Chindwin River in Kani Township, killing two civilians and damaging residential homes.

Currently, the military junta is attempting to gain control of the Monywa–Yagyi–Kalewa Road in Kani Township. Since the Thingyan period, junta troops have been stationed in Kani Town, Ahlap Kyun, and Bant Bway villages, as well as Chaung Ma, Mu Htaw, and Aung Mingalar villages, conducting raids across villages, committing killings, looting, and arson. As a result, tens of thousands of residents from nearly 30 villages in Kani Township have been forced to flee as displaced persons.

According to a statement released in early July by the Ministry of Human Rights (MOHR) under the National Unity Government (NUG), the military junta carried out 12,896 airstrikes and shellings on non-military civilian areas across the country over a five-year period from the February 2021 coup to the end of June 2026. These attacks killed 5,846 civilians and destroyed 1,448 schools, hospitals, clinics, religious structures, and civilian properties.
