Departmental authorities under the Arakkha Government and local residents have been working together since June 1 to repair a severely damaged village-connecting road in Sinswelya (Chakma) village, located in Buthidaung Township, Arakan. The road has been in poor condition for many years.
Every year during the rainy season, the Sinswelya village road becomes heavily muddy and extremely difficult to traverse, significantly impacting the education, healthcare, and livelihood sectors of the local populace.
Expressing appreciation for the timely collaborative efforts of the departmental authorities and locals ahead of this year's monsoon season, a Sinswelya villager told.
"In previous years, this road became completely impassable as soon as it rained. I am truly delighted that departmental authorities and locals have come together to repair it in time before the heavy rains hit. I am very grateful to everyone involved."
The resident further explained that the damaged road had previously caused significant disruptions to local healthcare and education. Notably, sixth-grade students had to commute with great difficulty to the neighboring Ngakyaitauk village to attend school.
Local entrepreneurs and residents provided crucial logistical support for the road repairs, contributing dump trucks and backhoes (excavators) through a self-reliance system.
