Five Myanmar security personnel—four members of the Border Guard Police (BGP) and one soldier from the Myanmar military commission—were detained inside Bangladesh on November 23 after they were found wandering near the border, according to Colonel SM Khairul Alam of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion 34.

The detainees have been identified as Ko Ko Sein, 35, from Moemauk Township in Kachin State; Soe Thu Ya, 38, a Deputy Investigation Officer under Myanmar BGP from Pantanaw Township in Ayeyarwady Region; Aung San Htoo, 25, a BGP member also from Ayeyarwady Region; Ko Zeyar Lin, 32; and Min Min Oo, 41, from Yangon Region.

Local residents in the Khontong area of Natchiangchhari Township, Bandarban District, noticed the group wandering and appearing disoriented. They alerted BGB personnel, who later apprehended the men around midday.

During initial questioning, the five reportedly told BGB officials in English that they had fled their camp due to intensified fighting inside Myanmar. They said they crossed approximately 1.5 kilometers into Bangladeshi territory from Border Post 42, seeking refuge.

Bangladesh authorities have not yet confirmed whether the group escaped during a recent Arakan Army (AA) offensive in Maungdaw Township or if they fled from an AA detention site. Investigations are ongoing, BGB officials said.
