It is reported that the Agricultural Division under the Department of Agriculture and Livestock of the Arakkha Government will systematically distribute and sell chemical fertilizers to farmers in the Arakan at affordable prices.
Currently, farmers in the Arakan are facing the burden of high farming expenditures, including the cost of chemical fertilizers.
Therefore, with the aim of enabling Arakan farmers to achieve good paddy yields and engage in farming at lower costs, the Arakkha Government is directly distributing and selling bags of chemical and organic fertilizers to farmers at affordable prices.
To ensure that farmers can purchase the fertilizer bags easily, pricing and transportation plans have been systematically designated and allocated according to districts and townships.
For distribution within townships across Mrauk-U, Minbya, and Sittwe districts, Indian Urea (white chemical fertilizer) can be purchased directly at the warehouse price of 95,000 MMK per bag, Indian DAP (black chemical fertilizer) at 200,000 MMK per bag, and organic fertilizer (15 kg) at 32,000 MMK per bag.
The same prices applicable for purchases in the aforementioned three districts will also be available across other districts and townships in the Arakan.
However, according to the statement, buyers will need to cover the transportation costs from the warehouses.
In addition, regulations to be followed have been issued to ensure that the fertilizers reach the hands of all farmers throughout the Arakan.
According to the announcement, an individual farmer can purchase between 1 to 10 bags of fertilizer without needing a recommendation letter. If a farmer wishes to purchase 10 bags or more, they must provide a recommendation letter from their respective ward/village tract administrator verifying their status as a farmer.
As a special benefit, if farmers from a community collectively purchase a large quantity of 120 bags or more, the Agricultural Division of the Arakkha Government will deliver the shipment free of transportation charges.
Similarly, it is learned that the Arakkha Government will sell fertilizers on a one-month deferred credit system for impoverished farmers facing financial constraints and difficulties with capital investment.
