The Arakan Lottery Department, under the Central Customs and Taxation Department of the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government (APRG), is set to officially sell the "Arakan Lottery" (Laung Paw) for residents in the Rakhine region starting this coming June, with the first draw scheduled for July.
The Arakan Lottery—which features a 6-digit system—will be available for purchase starting June 1, 2026, at a rate of 1,000 MMK per ticket. The inaugural draw will take place on July 1.
The lottery draws are planned to be held on the 1st of every month and will be broadcast monthly via online platforms as well as other media channels, according to the announcement.
Regarding the prize structure, a total of 39 winning prizes will be distributed across six tiers: a single 1st Prize of 50 million MMK, a single 2nd Prize of 30 million MMK, and a single 3rd Prize of 10 million MMK, followed by six 4th Prizes of 5 million MMK each, ten 5th Prizes of 1 million MMK each, and twenty 6th Prizes of 500,000 MMK each.
The Arakan Lottery Department noted that 50% of the total lottery revenue will be redistributed as cash prizes, while the remaining 50% will be reinvested into public healthcare, education, and social development projects, including roads and bridges infrastructure.
Interest is mounting among local residents following the official lottery announcement by the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government.
"Previously, we had to play other illegal lotteries covertly. Now that our own government is officially launching this, it feels much more reliable. If we win, it supports our family. Even if we don’t, we know these funds will be reused for regional development, healthcare, and education, so it feels like contributing to our country in some way," a local resident from Kyauktaw told Arakan Bay News.
The regulations state that Arakan Lottery tickets can be purchased at outlets opened by the Lottery Department and at respective District/Township Customs and Taxation offices. Winners must claim their prizes within one year from the draw date; unclaimed winnings will be forfeited to the public treasury.
Currently, the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government is also carrying out educational campaigns and prohibitions against illegal "Chai" lottery gambling, which some individuals have been playing across various townships in Rakhine State.
