On November 12, 2025, at 6 AM, a coastal security patrol consisting of two speedboats and one large wooden boat departed from the N-Khaung-Taw base station toward the Ngwe-Maung shore to patrol and apprehend boats illegally entering Arakan territorial waters from Bangladesh to poach fish.
While conducting the patrol, at approximately 1.77 km west of the village of Koe-Tan-Kauk in Sittwe Township, at 7:30 AM, the patrol arrested 6 fishermen who were poaching fish. Seized items included: one wooden boat, 48 viss (approximately 77 kg) of fish/shrimp, 4 mobile phones, 6 drift nets, 1 drag net, and 200 tarpaulin sheets.

Additionally, between Kyoe-Tan-Kauk village and Chain-Kha-Li village, at a distance of about 3.9 km from the shore, at 8:46 AM hours, the patrol arrested 7 fishermen whose boat had engine failure and was anchored. Seized items included: one wooden boat, 64 viss (approximately 103 kg) of fish/shrimp, 2 drag nets, 4 mobile phones, and 1,030 tarpaulin sheets.
The fishermen who illegally entered Arakan territorial waters to poach fish have been handed over to the relevant authorities for legal action in accordance with Arakan laws.
It is reported that between January and July 18, 2025, Arakan authorities released approximately 188 Bangladeshi fishermen and 30 boats in the spirit of maintaining good bilateral relations. However, due to the lack of appropriate respect and reciprocal constructive response from Bangladeshi authorities, subsequent intruders have been detained and are being prosecuted under the law.
