The Arakan Army (AA), together with allied forces, has fully seized and secured the Point 666 hilltop base in Pandaung Township following a coordinated assault, according to military sources.

An AA military official confirmed to AB News that the base—under the command of KaPaSa (16)—was captured on the evening of January 28 after hours of intense fighting. The decisive takeover was completed at around 5:40 p.m., despite heavy resistance from Myanmar’s military junta, which reportedly relied on sustained air support to defend the position.

“The junta launched repeated airstrikes in an attempt to prevent the fall of the base,” the official said. “However, Arakan fighters and allied joint forces advanced with determination and successfully brought the base under full control.”

Point 666 had previously fallen to the AA but was later reoccupied by junta troops after AA units were forced to withdraw temporarily due to shifting battlefield conditions and heavy aerial bombardment. The latest operation marks the AA’s renewed control over the strategic hilltop position.

AA officials said junta forces suffered significant casualties during the fighting, with a number of soldiers fleeing the base. Several bodies, along with weapons and ammunition, were reportedly recovered from within the compound.

While details remain unconfirmed, sources estimate that between 200 and 300 junta troops were stationed at Point 666, many believed to be newly trained conscripts recently deployed to the front lines.

Following the loss of the base, junta forces have continued to carry out repeated airstrikes on Point 666 and nearby areas in Pandaung Township. Clashes are also ongoing as AA and allied forces pursue retreating soldiers, with fighting reported near the KaPaSa (16) area.
