The Arakan Coast Guard (ACG), operating under the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government, is continuing to seize Bangladeshi fishing boats illegally entering and operating inside Arakan territorial waters along the Arakan–Bangladesh maritime border, according to sources.
Bangladeshi fishing vessels have repeatedly crossed into Arakan waters to fish illegally. On November 18, while conducting a maritime patrol, ACG personnel intercepted a boat carrying six Bangladeshi fishermen approximately 1.5 kilometers west of Inn Din Village in Maungdaw Township.

Later the same day, ACG seized another fishing boat with about seven Bangladeshi fishermen around 1.7 kilometers west of Kotankaunk Village in Rathedaung Township. A military source told AB News that the fishermen attempted to flee into open waters but were pursued and captured.
“Our government is cracking down on these illegal fishing boats. These fishermen not only poach fish inside the Arakan Sea but also cut and destroy local fishermen’s nets with knives. No matter how many times we arrest them, without strong and effective penalties, they will continue crossing illegally. On November 18, when ACG forces approached, they tried to escape into open waters but were captured again,” the source said.
The 13 detained fishermen are currently being questioned by relevant authorities of the Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government and are being processed in accordance with the law.

On November 12 alone, ACG intercepted two Bangladeshi fishing boats—each carrying six fishermen—at around 7:30 a.m. and 8:46 a.m. for illegal fishing inside Arakan territorial waters. Earlier, on November 5 at around 4:00 p.m., another boat with six Bangladeshi nationals was seized. On October 29, a separate boat carrying seven fishermen was also intercepted.
According to maritime regulations, foreign fishing vessels seeking to operate inside the Arakan Sea must officially register and pay taxes to the foreign fishing vessel management department before being permitted to conduct fishing activities.
