The 9th Mro National Day was marked with a lively and well-attended ceremony in Mrauk-U District, Arakan State, on March 19, drawing participation from community members, local leaders, and officials from the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA), according to local sources.

The event opened with formal remarks by the deputy township party chair, the chairperson of the Mro Literature and Culture Association, and the township administrator, highlighting the importance of preserving ethnic identity and cultural heritage.

Proceedings began with the Arakan national anthem, followed by a series of traditional performances. Mro youth showcased cultural dances in traditional attire, accompanied by indigenous musical instruments, reflecting the community’s rich cultural legacy.

A Mro community elder welcomed the celebration as an important step in safeguarding cultural traditions. “We are very pleased to be able to hold this event. It helps preserve our customs and cultural heritage, and we are grateful for the support provided,” he said, adding that efforts would continue to pass these traditions on to younger generations.

During the ceremony, officials from ULA/AA and district authorities presented awards and financial contributions in recognition of participants. Attendees were also treated to a variety of traditional Mro dishes.

A representative from the ULA administration reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting cultural events and expressed intentions to further expand such celebrations in the coming years. The official also encouraged Mro youth to pursue education while maintaining their cultural identity.

The event featured an exhibition of a traditional Mro house, offering insight into the community’s way of life. In line with customary practices, food served at the event was prepared without salt, using traditional ash-based seasoning.

Participants, particularly Mro youth, expressed pride and enthusiasm for the celebration and voiced hopes that the event would continue to be held annually.
