ULA/AA Inspects Field Conditions to Relocate Muslim Homes Damaged by Riverbank Erosion in Apauk Wa Village

It is reported that the United League of Arakan / Arakan Army (ULA/AA) is conducting field inspections to relocate Muslim homes damaged by riverbank erosion in the Pyar (Muslim) ward of Apauk Wa village, Kyauktaw Township, Arakan.

According to local residents, continuous heavy rainfall in Kyauktaw Township since July 9 led to riverbank erosion along the Kaladan River. As a result, 15 homes belonging to Muslim residents in the Pyar (Muslim) ward of Apauk Wa village collapsed into the river and were completely destroyed.

In addition to those destroyed, nearly 7 other houses built along the riverbank are currently facing the threat of collapsing.

To ensure the safety and relocation of the Muslim residents in Pyar (Muslim) village affected by this erosion, officials from the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government including district and township party officials, district administrative officials, circle party and administrative officers, as well as representatives from HDCO and DLEPS jointly held discussions with local Muslim residents and carried out field inspections.

Furthermore, on August 2, officials from the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government, in collaboration with HDCO and the Laywaddy Nationalist Youth Charity Association, provided financial assistance totaling 2,250,000 MMK, distributing 150,000 MMK per family to the 15 households whose homes were completely destroyed. The Arakan Public Health Department is also providing medical care to the affected Muslim families facing housing difficulties.

The Pyar (Muslim) ward consists of over 110 households with a population of around 700. To protect residents from ongoing riverbank erosion, approximately 45 houses need to be relocated.

Such riverbank erosion has occurred annually in Pyar (Muslim) village for the past three decades, previously causing casualties and property destruction.

However, the Arakan People's Revolutionary Government is currently conducting field assessments to implement measures against further erosion and to allocate new relocation sites, ensuring long-term safety and well-being for the local populace.
